Interim Executive Director Welcome Message
I address you today as the Interim Executive Director of the Mi’gmawei Mawio’mi Secretariat (MMS), I am humbled to continue my journey with the MMS organization during this period of transition and growth. Having been part of the MMS for over 20 years, I am aware of the incredible talent, dedication, and achievements that define our team. It is an honour to work alongside such motivating individuals, and I am excited to continue our collective efforts to drive success and make a lasting impact.
For nearly two decades, the Secretariat has been entrusted with the vital task of carrying out the directions of the Leadership from our three communities: Gesgapegiag, Gespeg, and Listuguj. Our overarching goal has remained throughout the years—to work tirelessly for the betterment of the citizens of Gespe’gewa’gi.
We work hand in hand with the Leadership and our fellow citizens to ensure transparency, accountability, and most importantly, to fulfill the will of the people.
As we move forward, our organization will be guided by the priorities set by our Leadership. We recognize that if it is not a priority for them, it is not a priority for us. This principle will shape our strategies and actions, as we remain dedicated to serving the needs and aspirations of Gespe’gewa’gi.
I encourage and embrace an open, transparent relationship between the Secretariat, the Leadership, and our citizens. We are all united in our common purpose—to protect and promote the Mi’gmaq values and principles on our territory. Together, we can ensure that the voice of Gespe’gewa’gi is heard and respected.

It is my great pleasure to welcome you to the Mi’gmawei Mawio’mi Secretariat website. A lot of hard work went into creating this beautiful, informative website. In this day and age of social media, it isn’t easy to keep up with the trends and new ways to push out information. Recently, the Leadership and Elders of the Mi’gmawei Mawio’mi gathered to develop a Strategic Plan that would guide the work of the Secretariat for the next 5 years forward. We will be bringing the Strategic Plan to the People of Gespe’gewa’gi as well so they are informed on the work that is happening on the territory.
Our goal at the Secretariat is always for the betterment of the Mi’gmaq people. All of our staff are born and raised here in Gespe’gewa’gi and all want to see it flourish in a good way. We want to leave our children and grandchildren with a clean, usable, and sustainable territory and collectively, we are all working for them towards a better world.
Juliette believes that being Mi’gmaq is a wholistic way of life that one begins and end with. Being Mi’gmaq is her compass; it is how she navigates throughout her world and how she makes decisions. She used this foundation and her Mi’gmaq teachings to raise her children; they are now, in turn, using them to teach their children.
Juliette is passionate and fearless when it comes to her family, community, and culture. She believes in being fair and recognizes that everyone has something important to contribute to the work. She strongly believes that collectively, we can work through any challenge.
Juliette has been studying traditional medicines since 2003 and has had the pleasure of working with some incredibly talented medicine people. They have all worked with her to solidify her Indigenous world view. Juliette feels extremely blessed to live in Listuguj, a community that has supported her and her family’s growth towards a more resilient future.
Juliette doesn’t really have a favorite food; she eats with the seasons … or whatever her husband cooks for her! She does, however, love to gather medicine, bead, teach, and, of course, spend as much time as she can with her grandchildren. Juliette has been married for 14 years; she and her husband have 3 daughters and 1 son, 3 beautiful grandchildren, and 2 dogs.

About Us
The Mi’gmawei Mawio’mi Secretariat (MMS) is a not-for-profit Rights-based organization founded over twenty-years ago. The MMS is the administrative body that is responsible for fulfilling the visions and direction of the Assembly of the Mi’gmawei Mawio’mi (MM), which is composed of the Chiefs and Councillors of Gesgapegiag, Gespeg, and Listuguj.
On August 4th, 2000, the signing of the Political Accord took place in Listuguj where Leadership, elders and community members gathered to witness the historical event. It was through the vision and leadership of the people that a unified alliance was formed to recognize and protect the unique relations of the Mi’gmaq existence since time immemorial.
Today, Mi’gmawei Mawio’mi continues to fulfill the original mission and purpose through its Gespegewa’gi Management Plan, Federal and Provincial Consultation and Accommodation, Tripartite Negotiations with Quebec and Canada, and various events hosted by Citizen Engagement.
Welcoming Message from the Interim Executive Director
