Finances et opérations
Chez MMS, les opérations et les finances constituent l'épine dorsale de l'organisation. Avec le souci du détail, nous gérons les obligations financières, y compris la gestion fiscale, les salaires et l'allocation du budget en fonction du financement reçu. Notre objectif est de maintenir un flux opérationnel stable, permettant à chaque unité du MMS de se concentrer sur ce qu'elle fait de mieux.
Le service des finances fournit des ressources financières afin de soutenir les objectifs de l'organisation, tout en maintenant les ententes de financement et d’assurer la réédition de compte par le biais de l'audit financier annuel.
Comité exécutif des finances
Le mandat du Comité exécutif des finances (CEF) du Mi'gmawei Mawio'mi est de superviser et d'assurer l'intégrité de toutes les transactions financières, de la tenue des comptes et des rapports du MM, conformément aux politiques et procédures approuvées, et aux ententes de financement et au budget approuvé par le MM.

Je m'adresse à vous aujourd'hui en tant que directeur général intérimaire du Secrétariat Mi'gmawei Mawio'mi (SMM). C'est avec humilité que je poursuis mon parcours au sein de l'organisation du SMM en cette période de transition et de croissance. Faisant partie du SMM depuis plus de 20 ans, je suis consciente de l'incroyable talent, du dévouement et des réalisations qui caractérisent notre équipe. C'est un honneur de travailler aux côtés d'individus aussi motivants, et je suis enthousiaste à l'idée de poursuivre nos efforts collectifs en vue d'assurer la réussite et d'avoir un impact durable.
Depuis près de deux décennies, le secrétariat s'est vu confier la tâche essentielle de mettre en œuvre les orientations des dirigeants de nos trois communautés : Gesgapegiag, Gespeg et Listuguj. Notre objectif principal est resté le même au fil des ans : travailler sans relâche à l'amélioration de la situation des citoyens de Gespe'gewa'gi
Nous travaillons de concert avec les dirigeants et nos concitoyens pour assurer la transparence, et, surtout, pour répondre à la volonté de nos concitoyens.

Welcoming Message from the Executive Director
It is my great pleasure to welcome you to the Mi’gmawei Mawio’mi Secretariat website. A lot of hard work went into creating this beautiful, informative website. In this day and age of social media, it isn’t easy to keep up with the trends and new ways to push out information. We are confident that our website offers the most current information about the organization and the Mi’gmawei Mawio’mi of Leaders as well.
Gespe’gewa’gi is a beautiful and fruitful territory and it is our role as Mi’gmaq to be the keepers of this land. The Secretariat’s mandate is to do just that. We work with the three communities of Gesgapegiag, Gespeg and Listuguj to ensure the good work is accomplished.
Recently, the Leadership and Elders of the Mi’gmawei Mawio’mi gathered to develop a Strategic Plan that would guide the work of the Secretariat for the next 5 years forward. We will be bringing the Strategic Plan to the People of Gespe’gewa’gi as well so they are informed on the work that is happening on the territory.
Our goal at the Secretariat is always for the betterment of the Mi’gmaq people. All of our staff are born and raised here in Gespe’gewa’gi and all want to see it flourish in a good way. Alexandria Barnaby is a Mi’gmaq from Listuguj and is currently the Executive Assistant to the Executive Director. In that capacity, Alexandria coordinates and manages the day-to-day activities of the Executive Director.
Auparavant, elle a travaillé pendant 6 ans comme assistante administrative dans une autre communauté de Première Nation avant de retourner à Listuguj en janvier 2021 avec ses deux fils pour occuper ce poste.

Coordinatrice Agnutmatesnu
Alicia a commencé à travailler pour les trois communautés en tant qu'assistante de projet pour la ferme éolienne Mesgi’g Ugju’s’n pour le MMBC en 2014. Là, Alicia était responsable de coordonner l'embauche de 100 travailleurs Mi'gmaq pour le projet. Elle a également co-coordonné la cérémonie d'inauguration. Alicia est restée partie du projet jusqu'en 2016 et a quitté peu de temps après pour avoir un bébé. En 2018, elle est retournée au MMS en tant qu'assistante exécutive du directeur exécutif. Après un an à ce poste, elle a rejoint l'équipe de négociation. En juillet 2019, Alicia a changé de rôle pour devenir coordinatrice Agnutmatesnu. Le travail de l'équipe de négociation est toujours en évolution, ce qui rend le travail excitant et toujours intéressant. Alicia détient un certificat de fondations en arts visuels de la New Brunswick School of Craft and Design (2015).
Alicia est ravie de travaillé pour les 3 communautés Mi'gmaq depuis les 9 dernières années. Elle se sent privilégiée de travailler dans un domaine unique qui se concentre sur la protection de notre territoire et de nos droits autochtones. Elle comprend l'importance des mandats du secrétariat et comment ils pourraient impacter les prochaines générations.
Alicia est très enthousiaste à l'idée d'assurer que les futures générations soient fières de qui elles sont, comprennent pleinement les défis auxquels notre peuple est confronté et comment continuer à surmonter ces adversités. Il est particulièrement important pour Alicia d'être un modèle positif pour les filles et femmes Mi'gmaq afin que, collectivement, nous puissions être fortes et passionnées.
Lorsqu'on lui a demandé de se décrire en 5 mots ou moins, Alicia a dit qu'elle était motivée, positive, une joueuse d'équipe, adaptable et... à la mode ! Alicia aime la musique et être sur la rivière, et passer du temps avec ses enfants, Veyda et Phoenix, et leur super-chiot, Molly.

Meet Chastity, Associate Executive Director of MMS, a Mi’gmaq Rights based organization. She joined the team of the Mi’gmawei Mawiomi Secretariat in early 2001 and held various positions in her 20 year career. She’s been an instrumental part in carrying out the strategic work of the MMS. She oversees the implementation of the strategic objectives and direction provided by the Mi’gmawei Mawio’mi Leadership. While overseeing the operations of the MMS, Chastity supports MMS communities’ priorities by supporting nation to government relationships that advance and protect the rights of L’nu, while promoting the imbalances at the front.
“I received opportunities based on my experiences, passion, my purpose of what I could do instead of what I’ve already done” on her career pivots. She defines the work of MMS “unique in the sense that results are generational”, it’s always about the cause and to achieve results starts with reconciliation of our rights, our story, our history.
She is a proud Mi’gmaq of the unceded territory of Gespe’gewa’gi (Listuguj, Qc).
On her time off, she enjoys the outdoors while juggling a work-life balance.
Donald Jeannotte-Anglehart
Donald Jeannotte Anglehart
Donald is a member of Gespeg, born in Montréal. His diverse academic background includes university studies in law and communications, and he has a Diplôme de 2e cycle de formation interculturelle de l’université de Sherbrooke. Recently, he completed Indigenous Innovative Leadership training with l’École des dirigeants des Premières Nations (EDPN)-HEC Montréal.
Donald a commencé à se faire sa marque dans le millieu autochtone au début des années 1990, occupant divers postes, y compris celui d'agent de projet pour le Centre de Ressources Ajigun à Montréal. Il est devenu conseiller pour Gespeg en 2000.
Donald has occupied a lot of positions at the MMS starting as the Research Coordinator in 2002. He later started the Information and Consultation Unit in 2004. In 2016, he took the lead in the Communications Unit as the Citizen and Engagement Officer and later, he became the Director of the Ango’tmeq Nm’tginen. Donald is currently the Communications Strategist at the MMS. Donald is one of the authors of Nta’tugwaqnminen, Our Story.
En 2015, Donald a été nommé au Conseil d'Administration de la Mi'gmawei Mawiomi Business Corporation (MMBC) et il a occupé le poste de Président de 2020 à 2023. Il siège également sur plusieurs conseils d'administration, y compris celui du Musée de la Gaspésie.
Vous pouvez toujours compter sur Donald pour porter un chapeau élégant, ce qui complète son enthousiasme pour la vie. Il apporte intégrité, créativité, un œil analytique aigu, énergie et ouverture à tout ce qu'il entreprend. Il se décrit comme passionné, curieux et désireux d'apprendre !
Donald aime cuisiner, être en plein air, camper, et entraîner des chiens et des chevaux. Il est allé en Afrique en 2022 et prévoit d'y retourner bientôt pour continuer à explorer les cultures traditionnelles africaines et rendre visite à ses amis.

Jill est fière d'être une Mi'gmaq de Listuguj qui vit de la terre avec son mari. Elle espère montrer l'exemple et encourager les autres à se connecter avec notre terre.

L'une des super-pouvoirs de Jill est d'être organisée et de créer de la responsabilité. Elle se décrit comme : responsable, ponctuelle, responsable, embrassant de nouveaux défis, et étant active!
Jill est farouchement loyale et aime sa famille de tout son cœur. Une de ses priorités principales est de passer beaucoup de temps de qualité avec eux, y compris son mari, son fils et sa petite amie, sa fille et sa famille, y compris deux magnifiques petits-enfants, sa sœur et ses enfants. Julia Anglehart is the newest addition to the Consultation & Accommodation team, as an administrative assistant. With a professional history that spans various sectors—including animal care, construction, event planning for weddings, fitness and wellness, retail, and beauty as a hairstylist and makeup artist—Julia’s diverse experience is matched by her proficiency in administration and customer service.

Marked by a contagious laugh and generous spirit, Juliette is one of the MMS’ veterans, having started here in 2002. Always growing and challenging herself, Juliette recently moved away from her role as the Director of Operations to being the Director of the Ango’tmeq Nm’tginen.
Working for the MMS has introduced Juliette to diverse Indigenous cultures. She appreciates how they are different but also sees how we are also similar. We want to leave our children and grandchildren with a clean, usable, and sustainable territory and collectively, we are all working for them towards a better world.
Juliette believes that being Mi’gmaq is a wholistic way of life that one begins and end with. Being Mi’gmaq is her compass; it is how she navigates throughout her world and how she makes decisions. She used this foundation and her Mi’gmaq teachings to raise her children; they are now, in turn, using them to teach their children.
Juliette is passionate and fearless when it comes to her family, community, and culture. She believes in being fair and recognizes that everyone has something important to contribute to the work. She strongly believes that collectively, we can work through any challenge.
Juliette has been studying traditional medicines since 2003 and has had the pleasure of working with some incredibly talented medicine people. They have all worked with her to solidify her Indigenous world view. Juliette feels extremely blessed to live in Listuguj, a community that has supported her and her family’s growth towards a more resilient future.
Juliette doesn’t really have a favorite food; she eats with the seasons … or whatever her husband cooks for her! She does, however, love to gather medicine, bead, teach, and, of course, spend as much time as she can with her grandchildren. Juliette has been married for 14 years; she and her husband have 3 daughters and 1 son, 3 beautiful grandchildren, and 2 dogs.

Nathalie est la responsable des consultations Secretariat au Mi'gmawei Mawiomi (SMM). Elle travaille au SMM depuis un peu plus d'un an et demi. Elle est formée en sciences humaines et en Arc GIS PRO et est en train de terminer une formation en surveillance environnementale.
Nathalie estime que l'essence d'être Mi'gmaq réside dans le mode de vie que nos ancêtres nous ont enseigné : protéger l'eau, protéger la terre, prioriser la conservation et ne prendre que ce dont nous avons besoin. Nathalie utilise ces enseignements fondamentaux pour guider son travail. Son travail est basé sur ces valeurs Mi'gmaq, les connaissances culturelles et la compréhension du mode de vie Mi'gmaq.
Nathalie se sent chanceuse de travailler au SMM. Elle aime travailler avec des personnes formidables qui partagent les mêmes valeurs, la même dévotion et les mêmes préoccupations qu'elle. Avoir nos communautés à cœur est une priorité.
Les talents particuliers que Nathalie apporte à son travail incluent des compétences organisationnelles et de planification ainsi que des compétences en leadership. Elle se décrit comme ouverte d'esprit, fiable, travailleuse, sincère et optimiste.
Originaire de Gespeg, Nathalie vit maintenant à Barachois, QC, avec son mari, sa fille, trois chiens et un chat ! Sur sa liste de choses à faire, elle aimerait faire du saut en parachute et du saut à l'élastique!

Scott Metallic
Scott Metallic serves as the Coordinator for the Ango’tmeq Nm’tginen Unit at MMS. With a 15-year background in Forestry, Scott shifted his expertise to environmental efforts, playing a key role in the Mesgi’g Ugju’s’n Windfarm project until its completion in 2016. He later contributed his skills at St. Mary’s Cement Plant in Port Daniel before joining MMS as an Environmental Monitor in the same year.
Over the past six years at MMS, Scott has advanced from Environmental Monitoring to Mapping for Consultations and, most recently, to his current role where he oversees significant Natural Resource files for Gespe’gewa’gi. His work ranges from vacation lease development to caribou protection, leveraging his extensive knowledge of the land and mapping proficiencies to safeguard our environment for future generations.
As an enthusiastic hiker, Scott merges his love for the outdoors with his professional insights, gaining a distinctive outlook on land conservation. He advocates for the exploration of our beautiful territory, emphasizing the Mi’gmaq philosophy of living beyond boundaries.
Tanya Barnaby-Williams

Meet Tanya, the Executive Director of MMS. She has over 20 years of experience with the organization and has worked in some capacity in all the units. She was an integral part of the Wesgijinua’luet Research project in the early 2000’s as well as developing the Consultation and Accommodation Unit from the ground up. She has a wealth of knowledge when it comes to Mi’gmaq rights and title and it is where her passions lie.
Tanya’s professional goals are all about the advancement of rights and assertion of Mi’gmaq lands as well as creating a strong Mi’gmaq government system for our next generations.
When she isn’t working, Tanya is a dedicated wife to Desta, mom to Kya and their fur baby, Marley and step-mom to Jaidyn. Her favourite thing to do is to travel to warm locations!
Spencer Isaac

Spencer Isaac joins the MMS team as the Administration Manager. Born and raised in Listuguj, Spencer’s heart has always been set on doing his part to support Mi’gma’gi. Although he is forever tied to his home, he left briefly to acquire an extensive education at Mount Allison University, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in 2018. Upon completion, he returned home and taught at the Alaqsite’w Gitpu School for a couple of years.
To further his knowledge, Spencer moved to Oromocto, NB, to obtain his Bachelor of Education and Early Childhood Certificate at the University of New Brunswick. At this point, he had met his lovely wife, and they started a family. Now, Spencer is a Graduate student at Yorkville University, en route to earning his Master of Education in Educational Leadership, which has been serving him well in his pursuit of learning how to be an effective leader at MMS.
Spencer’s dream of meaningfully contributing to his home community is on track as he and his family set out to return home, where their daughter can learn about her heritage, language, and identity as a Mi’gmaq citizen. He is beyond excited for the coming years at MMS and looks forward to supporting the organization’s administration, operations, and communications files. He is always willing to share his knowledge and learn from others who live and use the territory.

Communications Coordinator
Having worked with Secretariat previously, Tyler Morrison returns to the organization as their Communications Coordinator. Born and raised in Listuguj, Tyler has always held a passion for the communication landscape and the co-benefits it brings to informing and engaging in First Nation communities – The opportunity to record, archive & highlight a community’s history for the following generations.
With Tyler’s previous contributions to the communications departments in Listuguj & Ugpi’ganjig and further expanding his skills with the Canadian Red Cross working remote and in-person with regional programming and supporting domestic emergency response operations. He’s eager to have returned home to support and progress the organizations goals and mandates, while continuing to grow his competence and passion of the work to protect our Territory and First Nation Rights.
Outside of work, you’ll find Tyler spending time with his Wife Paige & their Dog (Bruce).
Peter Vicaire
Peter Vicaire
Peter Scott Vicaire joins the MMS team as the Ango’tmeg (Lands) Manager. He grew up in Listuguj and did his undergraduate studies at UNB Fredericton. He’s also U.S. Marine, honorably discharged from the Corps as a sergeant after serving with the 8th & I Presidential Honor Guard in Washington D.C. and infantry squad leader with 3rd Battalion, 4th Marines. He has both American (Michigan State University) and Canadian (University of Ottawa) law degrees, with a specialization in Indigenous law, and is licensed to practice in New York and Minnesota. He also has a master’s degree in military history from the American Military University.
Before starting at MMS, he worked for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) for fourteen years in the Office of Tribal Government Relations, serving as a liaison between VA and 74 tribal governments across 14 states. This work was rewarding, as it helped Native American veterans receive the benefits and services they earned through their military service.
In his spare time, Peter enjoys writing fiction. He’s written a novel (the first of a planned series of seven) based on Mi’gmaq mythology and a stage play on the Mi’gmaq origin story, which was performed over three nights in Listuguj. He’s also written many screenplays, one of which was filmed in early 2025.

Brian J Isaac
Brian Jefferson Isaac is from the territory of Gespegewa’gi where he grew up in Listuguj. Brian’s academic and professional interests are political philosophy and Indigenous governance. Brian holds a BA from Concordia University, double-majoring in Political Science and First Peoples Studies.
Additionally, Brian has just recently graduated from McGill University with an MA in Political Science specializing in theory and international relations. He has also sat as a student fellow with the Research Group on Constitutional Studies with the Yan P. Lin Centre for Freedom and Global Orders in the Ancient and Modern Worlds. Brian’s extracurriculars have also included hosting a weekly radio show for McGill’s CKUT 93.5 covering topics discussing local politics and social justice. As a Listuguj Mi’gmaq, Brian enjoys Salmon fishing and spending time on the territory.

Le mandat du Comité exécutif des finances (CEF) du Mi'gmawei Mawio'mi est de superviser et d'assurer l'intégrité de toutes les transactions financières, de la tenue des comptes et des rapports du MM, conformément aux politiques et procédures approuvées, et aux ententes de financement et au budget approuvé par le MM.

It is my great pleasure to welcome you to the Mi’gmawei Mawio’mi Secretariat website. A lot of hard work went into creating this beautiful, informative website. In this day and age of social media, it isn’t easy to keep up with the trends and new ways to push out information. We are confident that our website offers the most current information about the organization and the Mi’gmawei Mawio’mi of Leaders as well.
Gespe’gewa’gi is a beautiful and fruitful territory and it is our role as Mi’gmaq to be the keepers of this land. The Secretariat’s mandate is to do just that. We work with the three communities of Gesgapegiag, Gespeg and Listuguj to ensure the good work is accomplished.
Recently, the Leadership and Elders of the Mi’gmawei Mawio’mi gathered to develop a Strategic Plan that would guide the work of the Secretariat for the next 5 years forward. We will be bringing the Strategic Plan to the People of Gespe’gewa’gi as well so they are informed on the work that is happening on the territory.
Our goal at the Secretariat is always for the betterment of the Mi’gmaq people. All of our staff are born and raised here in Gespe’gewa’gi and all want to see it flourish in a good way. Alexandria Barnaby is a Mi’gmaq from Listuguj and is currently the Executive Assistant to the Executive Director. In that capacity, Alexandria coordinates and manages the day-to-day activities of the Executive Director.
Auparavant, elle a travaillé pendant 6 ans comme assistante administrative dans une autre communauté de Première Nation avant de retourner à Listuguj en janvier 2021 avec ses deux fils pour occuper ce poste.

Coordinatrice Agnutmatesnu
Alicia a commencé à travailler pour les trois communautés en tant qu'assistante de projet pour la ferme éolienne Mesgi’g Ugju’s’n pour le MMBC en 2014. Là, Alicia était responsable de coordonner l'embauche de 100 travailleurs Mi'gmaq pour le projet. Elle a également co-coordonné la cérémonie d'inauguration. Alicia est restée partie du projet jusqu'en 2016 et a quitté peu de temps après pour avoir un bébé. En 2018, elle est retournée au MMS en tant qu'assistante exécutive du directeur exécutif. Après un an à ce poste, elle a rejoint l'équipe de négociation. En juillet 2019, Alicia a changé de rôle pour devenir coordinatrice Agnutmatesnu. Le travail de l'équipe de négociation est toujours en évolution, ce qui rend le travail excitant et toujours intéressant. Alicia détient un certificat de fondations en arts visuels de la New Brunswick School of Craft and Design (2015).
Alicia est ravie de travaillé pour les 3 communautés Mi'gmaq depuis les 9 dernières années. Elle se sent privilégiée de travailler dans un domaine unique qui se concentre sur la protection de notre territoire et de nos droits autochtones. Elle comprend l'importance des mandats du secrétariat et comment ils pourraient impacter les prochaines générations.
Alicia est très enthousiaste à l'idée d'assurer que les futures générations soient fières de qui elles sont, comprennent pleinement les défis auxquels notre peuple est confronté et comment continuer à surmonter ces adversités. Il est particulièrement important pour Alicia d'être un modèle positif pour les filles et femmes Mi'gmaq afin que, collectivement, nous puissions être fortes et passionnées.
Lorsqu'on lui a demandé de se décrire en 5 mots ou moins, Alicia a dit qu'elle était motivée, positive, une joueuse d'équipe, adaptable et... à la mode ! Alicia aime la musique et être sur la rivière, et passer du temps avec ses enfants, Veyda et Phoenix, et leur super-chiot, Molly.

Meet Chastity, Associate Executive Director of MMS, a Mi’gmaq Rights based organization. She joined the team of the Mi’gmawei Mawiomi Secretariat in early 2001 and held various positions in her 20 year career. She’s been an instrumental part in carrying out the strategic work of the MMS. She oversees the implementation of the strategic objectives and direction provided by the Mi’gmawei Mawio’mi Leadership. While overseeing the operations of the MMS, Chastity supports MMS communities’ priorities by supporting nation to government relationships that advance and protect the rights of L’nu, while promoting the imbalances at the front.
“I received opportunities based on my experiences, passion, my purpose of what I could do instead of what I’ve already done” on her career pivots. She defines the work of MMS “unique in the sense that results are generational”, it’s always about the cause and to achieve results starts with reconciliation of our rights, our story, our history.
She is a proud Mi’gmaq of the unceded territory of Gespe’gewa’gi (Listuguj, Qc).
On her time off, she enjoys the outdoors while juggling a work-life balance.
Donald Jeannotte-Anglehart
Donald Jeannotte Anglehart
Donald is a member of Gespeg, born in Montréal. His diverse academic background includes university studies in law and communications, and he has a Diplôme de 2e cycle de formation interculturelle de l’université de Sherbrooke. Recently, he completed Indigenous Innovative Leadership training with l’École des dirigeants des Premières Nations (EDPN)-HEC Montréal.
Donald a commencé à se faire sa marque dans le millieu autochtone au début des années 1990, occupant divers postes, y compris celui d'agent de projet pour le Centre de Ressources Ajigun à Montréal. Il est devenu conseiller pour Gespeg en 2000.
Donald has occupied a lot of positions at the MMS starting as the Research Coordinator in 2002. He later started the Information and Consultation Unit in 2004. In 2016, he took the lead in the Communications Unit as the Citizen and Engagement Officer and later, he became the Director of the Ango’tmeq Nm’tginen. Donald is currently the Communications Strategist at the MMS. Donald is one of the authors of Nta’tugwaqnminen, Our Story.
En 2015, Donald a été nommé au Conseil d'Administration de la Mi'gmawei Mawiomi Business Corporation (MMBC) et il a occupé le poste de Président de 2020 à 2023. Il siège également sur plusieurs conseils d'administration, y compris celui du Musée de la Gaspésie.
Vous pouvez toujours compter sur Donald pour porter un chapeau élégant, ce qui complète son enthousiasme pour la vie. Il apporte intégrité, créativité, un œil analytique aigu, énergie et ouverture à tout ce qu'il entreprend. Il se décrit comme passionné, curieux et désireux d'apprendre !

Jill est fière d'être une Mi'gmaq de Listuguj qui vit de la terre avec son mari. Elle espère montrer l'exemple et encourager les autres à se connecter avec notre terre.

L'une des super-pouvoirs de Jill est d'être organisée et de créer de la responsabilité. Elle se décrit comme : responsable, ponctuelle, responsable, embrassant de nouveaux défis, et étant active!
Jill est farouchement loyale et aime sa famille de tout son cœur. Une de ses priorités principales est de passer beaucoup de temps de qualité avec eux, y compris son mari, son fils et sa petite amie, sa fille et sa famille, y compris deux magnifiques petits-enfants, sa sœur et ses enfants. Julia Anglehart is the newest addition to the Consultation & Accommodation team, as an administrative assistant. With a professional history that spans various sectors—including animal care, construction, event planning for weddings, fitness and wellness, retail, and beauty as a hairstylist and makeup artist—Julia’s diverse experience is matched by her proficiency in administration and customer service.

Marked by a contagious laugh and generous spirit, Juliette is one of the MMS’ veterans, having started here in 2002. Always growing and challenging herself, Juliette recently moved away from her role as the Director of Operations to being the Director of the Ango’tmeq Nm’tginen.
Working for the MMS has introduced Juliette to diverse Indigenous cultures. She appreciates how they are different but also sees how we are also similar. We want to leave our children and grandchildren with a clean, usable, and sustainable territory and collectively, we are all working for them towards a better world.
Juliette believes that being Mi’gmaq is a wholistic way of life that one begins and end with. Being Mi’gmaq is her compass; it is how she navigates throughout her world and how she makes decisions. She used this foundation and her Mi’gmaq teachings to raise her children; they are now, in turn, using them to teach their children.
Juliette is passionate and fearless when it comes to her family, community, and culture. She believes in being fair and recognizes that everyone has something important to contribute to the work. She strongly believes that collectively, we can work through any challenge.
Juliette has been studying traditional medicines since 2003 and has had the pleasure of working with some incredibly talented medicine people. They have all worked with her to solidify her Indigenous world view. Juliette feels extremely blessed to live in Listuguj, a community that has supported her and her family’s growth towards a more resilient future.
Juliette doesn’t really have a favorite food; she eats with the seasons … or whatever her husband cooks for her! She does, however, love to gather medicine, bead, teach, and, of course, spend as much time as she can with her grandchildren. Juliette has been married for 14 years; she and her husband have 3 daughters and 1 son, 3 beautiful grandchildren, and 2 dogs.

Nathalie est la responsable des consultations Secretariat au Mi'gmawei Mawiomi (SMM). Elle travaille au SMM depuis un peu plus d'un an et demi. Elle est formée en sciences humaines et en Arc GIS PRO et est en train de terminer une formation en surveillance environnementale.
Nathalie estime que l'essence d'être Mi'gmaq réside dans le mode de vie que nos ancêtres nous ont enseigné : protéger l'eau, protéger la terre, prioriser la conservation et ne prendre que ce dont nous avons besoin. Nathalie utilise ces enseignements fondamentaux pour guider son travail. Son travail est basé sur ces valeurs Mi'gmaq, les connaissances culturelles et la compréhension du mode de vie Mi'gmaq.
Nathalie se sent chanceuse de travailler au SMM. Elle aime travailler avec des personnes formidables qui partagent les mêmes valeurs, la même dévotion et les mêmes préoccupations qu'elle. Avoir nos communautés à cœur est une priorité.
Les talents particuliers que Nathalie apporte à son travail incluent des compétences organisationnelles et de planification ainsi que des compétences en leadership. Elle se décrit comme ouverte d'esprit, fiable, travailleuse, sincère et optimiste.
Originaire de Gespeg, Nathalie vit maintenant à Barachois, QC, avec son mari, sa fille, trois chiens et un chat ! Sur sa liste de choses à faire, elle aimerait faire du saut en parachute et du saut à l'élastique!

Scott Metallic
Scott Metallic serves as the Coordinator for the Ango’tmeq Nm’tginen Unit at MMS. With a 15-year background in Forestry, Scott shifted his expertise to environmental efforts, playing a key role in the Mesgi’g Ugju’s’n Windfarm project until its completion in 2016. He later contributed his skills at St. Mary’s Cement Plant in Port Daniel before joining MMS as an Environmental Monitor in the same year.
Over the past six years at MMS, Scott has advanced from Environmental Monitoring to Mapping for Consultations and, most recently, to his current role where he oversees significant Natural Resource files for Gespe’gewa’gi. His work ranges from vacation lease development to caribou protection, leveraging his extensive knowledge of the land and mapping proficiencies to safeguard our environment for future generations.
As an enthusiastic hiker, Scott merges his love for the outdoors with his professional insights, gaining a distinctive outlook on land conservation. He advocates for the exploration of our beautiful territory, emphasizing the Mi’gmaq philosophy of living beyond boundaries.
Tanya Barnaby-Williams

Meet Tanya, the Executive Director of MMS. She has over 20 years of experience with the organization and has worked in some capacity in all the units. She was an integral part of the Wesgijinua’luet Research project in the early 2000’s as well as developing the Consultation and Accommodation Unit from the ground up. She has a wealth of knowledge when it comes to Mi’gmaq rights and title and it is where her passions lie.
Tanya’s professional goals are all about the advancement of rights and assertion of Mi’gmaq lands as well as creating a strong Mi’gmaq government system for our next generations.
When she isn’t working, Tanya is a dedicated wife to Desta, mom to Kya and their fur baby, Marley and step-mom to Jaidyn. Her favourite thing to do is to travel to warm locations!
Spencer Isaac

Spencer Isaac joins the MMS team as the Administration Manager. Born and raised in Listuguj, Spencer’s heart has always been set on doing his part to support Mi’gma’gi. Although he is forever tied to his home, he left briefly to acquire an extensive education at Mount Allison University, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in 2018. Upon completion, he returned home and taught at the Alaqsite’w Gitpu School for a couple of years.
To further his knowledge, Spencer moved to Oromocto, NB, to obtain his Bachelor of Education and Early Childhood Certificate at the University of New Brunswick. At this point, he had met his lovely wife, and they started a family. Now, Spencer is a Graduate student at Yorkville University, en route to earning his Master of Education in Educational Leadership, which has been serving him well in his pursuit of learning how to be an effective leader at MMS.
Spencer’s dream of meaningfully contributing to his home community is on track as he and his family set out to return home, where their daughter can learn about her heritage, language, and identity as a Mi’gmaq citizen. He is beyond excited for the coming years at MMS and looks forward to supporting the organization’s administration, operations, and communications files. He is always willing to share his knowledge and learn from others who live and use the territory.

Communications Coordinator
Having worked with Secretariat previously, Tyler Morrison returns to the organization as their Communications Coordinator. Born and raised in Listuguj, Tyler has always held a passion for the communication landscape and the co-benefits it brings to informing and engaging in First Nation communities – The opportunity to record, archive & highlight a community’s history for the following generations.
With Tyler’s previous contributions to the communications departments in Listuguj & Ugpi’ganjig and further expanding his skills with the Canadian Red Cross working remote and in-person with regional programming and supporting domestic emergency response operations. He’s eager to have returned home to support and progress the organizations goals and mandates, while continuing to grow his competence and passion of the work to protect our Territory and First Nation Rights.
Outside of work, you’ll find Tyler spending time with his Wife Paige & their Dog (Bruce).
Peter Vicaire
Peter Vicaire
Peter Scott Vicaire joins the MMS team as the Ango’tmeg (Lands) Manager. He grew up in Listuguj and did his undergraduate studies at UNB Fredericton. He’s also U.S. Marine, honorably discharged from the Corps as a sergeant after serving with the 8th & I Presidential Honor Guard in Washington D.C. and infantry squad leader with 3rd Battalion, 4th Marines. He has both American (Michigan State University) and Canadian (University of Ottawa) law degrees, with a specialization in Indigenous law, and is licensed to practice in New York and Minnesota. He also has a master’s degree in military history from the American Military University.
Before starting at MMS, he worked for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) for fourteen years in the Office of Tribal Government Relations, serving as a liaison between VA and 74 tribal governments across 14 states. This work was rewarding, as it helped Native American veterans receive the benefits and services they earned through their military service.
In his spare time, Peter enjoys writing fiction. He’s written a novel (the first of a planned series of seven) based on Mi’gmaq mythology and a stage play on the Mi’gmaq origin story, which was performed over three nights in Listuguj. He’s also written many screenplays, one of which was filmed in early 2025.

Brian J Isaac
Brian Jefferson Isaac is from the territory of Gespegewa’gi where he grew up in Listuguj. Brian’s academic and professional interests are political philosophy and Indigenous governance. Brian holds a BA from Concordia University, double-majoring in Political Science and First Peoples Studies.
Additionally, Brian has just recently graduated from McGill University with an MA in Political Science specializing in theory and international relations. He has also sat as a student fellow with the Research Group on Constitutional Studies with the Yan P. Lin Centre for Freedom and Global Orders in the Ancient and Modern Worlds. Brian’s extracurriculars have also included hosting a weekly radio show for McGill’s CKUT 93.5 covering topics discussing local politics and social justice. As a Listuguj Mi’gmaq, Brian enjoys Salmon fishing and spending time on the territory.

C'est avec humilité que je poursuis mon parcours au sein de l'organisation du SMM en cette période de transition et de croissance. Faisant partie du SMM depuis plus de 20 ans, je suis consciente de l'incroyable talent, du dévouement et des réalisations qui caractérisent notre équipe. C'est un honneur de travailler aux côtés d'individus aussi motivants, et je suis enthousiaste à l'idée de poursuivre nos efforts collectifs en vue d'assurer la réussite et d'avoir un impact durable.
Depuis près de deux décennies, le secrétariat s'est vu confier la tâche essentielle de mettre en œuvre les orientations des dirigeants de nos trois communautés : Gesgapegiag, Gespeg et Listuguj. Today, Mi’gmawei Mawio’mi is still fulfilling the original mission and purpose through it’s Gespegewa’gi Management Plan, the Tripartite Negotiations with Quebec and Canada, and various events hosted by Citizen Engagement.
