At the Mi’gmawei Mawio’mi Secretariat, our focus is set on uniting, empowering, and upholding the recognition of Mi’gmaw rights. Within the Secretariat lies the Mi’gmawei Mawio’mi (MM) an alliance of three resilient Mi’gmaw communities – Gesgapegiag, Gespeg and Listuguj. Our collective mission revolves around strengthening our shared identity as a nation.
On August 4th, 2000, the signing of the Political Accord took place in Listuguj where Leadership, Elders and community members gathered to witness the historical event. It was through the vision and leadership of the people that a unified alliance was formed to recognize and protect the unique relations of the Mi’gmaq existence since time immemorial.
With a legacy of over two decades, the MMS has made significant strides in advocating for the rights of Mi’gmaq people and our territory.
Gesgapegiag, Gespe’g and Listuguj are communities in the seventh district of Mi’gma’gi known as Gespe’gewa’gi, the ancestral and unceded territory of the Mi’gmaq.

Mission
To provide just, effective, efficient and responsible Mi’gmaq Government for the Mi’gmaq throughout the traditional territory of Gespe’gewa’gi, respecting our Mi’gmaq Values, listening to the needs and aspirations of the Mi’gmaq and assuring respect for our treaty and Indigenous rights and title
