Implementing & Revising Management & Operating Policies

Policies keep an organization running well. The Mi’gmawei Mawiomi (MM) leadership has delegated the responsibility of making office policies to the MMS Executive Director. Under his direction and approval, he has given the MMS Director of Operations the role of implementing and revising these policies, in accordance with the Annual Labour Canada / Canadian Human Rights Commission guidance.

MMS management and operating policies may include:

  • Setting and keeping deadlines for work assignments

  • Schedules for timely preparation of financial reports

  • Guidelines for prompt payment of bills and expenses

  • Holding timely performance reviews and appropriate follow-up

  • Fair and impartial advertising and filling of vacancies

  • Guidelines for contractor usage and compensation

  • Attendance issues and reporting to work on time

  • Vacation planning and booking

  • Ensuring that building and maintenance is done in a timely manner

  • Providing for wise use of resources such as office supplies and equipment including cell phone and laptop purchases and use

  • Establishing a schedule for office equipment turn-over and replacement

  • Ensuring that the Reception Area is staffed if the regular Receptionist is away

  • Setting office hours, establishing holiday schedules, and other work schedule issues

The Director of Operations is responsible for reviewing policies covering the above and suggesting revisions as needed throughout the operating year. She also implements these policies through discussions with MMS staff and by written policy guidance.

When fair policies are established, and when everyone cooperates together in following the policies in the spirit of mawlugutigw, an organization can thrive and advance. Staff will be happy and productive at work. This is what we at MMS strive to accomplish.
