Fiscal Management of MMS
Careful management of finances is critical to the success of any organization. The Mi’gmawei Mawiomi (MM) has appointed an Executive Finance Committee (EFC) to oversee all of the financial matters and accountability of the MM. The EFC meets quarterly to review the overall MM financial standing as well as the financial status of various agreements, reports, and projects that the MM is involved in.
In addition to several Chiefs and other MM leaders, the team of the Operations Unit sits ex officio on the EFC:
Director of Operations
Besides other duties, the Director is responsible for supervising overall accounting functions, including financial posting of revenues, expenses, and payrolls. She prepares quarterly and year-end financial statements and readies the books for EFC review. She monitors the progress of MMS contracts and agreements and she approves payments for work done under the contracts. In addition, she assists other MMS units in preparing contracts and budgeting forecasts for various projects that they wish to undertake.
This staffer is responsible for posting revenues, expenses and other disbursements. She also compiles the payroll, calculates and enters employees’ benefit and tax information, source deductions, and payroll.
This officer analyzes expenses and ensures that these agree with the terms of various MMS contracts and project expenses. She makes sure that expenses, especially those connected with contractor performance, are accurate. She also assists the Director with budget projections, preparing quarterly and year-end financial statements, and balancing and reconciling month-end reviews.
