The Mi’gmawei Mawiomi Secretariat (MMS) is the administrative body that carries out the work set out by the Assembly of the Mi’gmawei Mawiomi (MM) which includes the Chiefs and Councillors of Gesgapegiag, Gespeg and Listuguj.

The Mi’gmawei Mawiomi Mission

The Mi’gmawei Mawiomi (MM) was founded upon the spirit and intent of the Political Accord of 2000 consented among Gesgape’gewa’gi Mi’gmaq governing councils of Gesgapegiag, Gespeg and Listuguj.

The Mi’gmaq nation, having inhabited this territory since time immemorial have inalienable title to the land, surrounding waters and have un-extinguished aboriginal rights, title and treaty rights throughout the territory.
It is therefore our mission to uphold, reaffirm and respect the treaty and aboriginal rights and aspiration or our people by rebuilding the nation through repatriation of lands, resources and surrounding waters.

We will forge alinances to support the pursuit of all paths to Mi’gmaq self-determination by engaged strategic national and international partnerships in economic, social, traditional, cultural and other nation building developments as deemed necessary by the Mi’gmaq Mawiomi.

Unanimous and in solidarity, this 18th day of March, 2003. Executed at Listuguj, Gespe’gewa’gi territory.

The Mi’gmawei Mawiomi Vision

An Independent (self-sustaining, self-determining) Mi’gmaq Government based on a Constitution that promotes and protects the rights, freedoms and well-being of the L’nu.

Mi’gmawei Mawiomi Principles of Engagement

The three communities of Gesgapegiag, Gespeg and Listuguj, allied by the Mi’gmawei Mawiomi, have un-extinguished aboriginal rights and title throughout Gespe’gewa’gi our Territory.

These Constitutionally recognized rights will forever be protected, promoted, implemented and shall never be ceded nor extinguished.

This declaration renews the commitment of our Assembly towards Treaty Implementation and our position against extinguishment; we will never cede nor extinguish our Aboriginal and Treaty Rights nor Title to Gespe’gewa’gi.
